Two incoming domestic flights were diverted and two outbound flights cancelled following this afternoon’s security alert at Queenstown Airport.
The airport resumed normal operations at 16:30 after activating its emergency security protocols this afternoon in response to a bomb alert on an aircraft.
Queenstown Airport Corporation spokeswoman Jen Andrews said that during the incident two flights which were en-route from Wellington and Auckland were diverted to Christchurch and back to Auckland. The two corresponding outbound flights to Wellington and Auckland were cancelled.
The airport is now working with airlines to expedite the turnaround of remaining flights to minimise further disruption to passengers. All evening services are running to schedule.

Queenstown Airport terminal building has reopened at 16:30 following its emergency security protocols being activated this afternoon after a bomb alert on an aircraft.
The airport terminal was evacuated as a precaution while the situation was investigated by NZ Police and Aviation Security.
Airport spokeswoman Jen Andrews said that all aircraft that were loaded and ready to depart were able to take off and inbound aircraft were able to land. Passengers were temporarily held on board but are now disembarking.
Airport staff have been working with airlines to ensure the safety of all passengers.
All passengers due to depart Queenstown this afternoon, and those expecting to meet incoming flights, are asked to contact their airlines for the latest flight times.
