Welcome and take care over Queenstown Winter Festival
20 Jun 2019
Queenstown Airport plans to make the most of its “first touch point” status, with a warmer than usual welcome for the thousands of visitors expected to fly in for the annual Real Journeys Queenstown Winter Festival.
Two Winter Festival Ambassadors, Mariana Costa and Emma Wynne will be greeting visitors, helping with enquiries and encouraging them to make a Tiaki Promise to protect Queenstown and New Zealand.
The Tiaki tourism initiative encourages visitors to respect the destination by driving carefully, protecting nature, showing respect, keeping New Zealand clean and being prepared for natural disasters. Visitors can show their promise in practise by uploading comments and images to www.tiakinewzealand.com during their stay.
“Tiaki is a natural fit with our role as the destination airport and the first touch point visitors have with Queenstown. It also fits well with our goal to create memorable experiences for our visitors and a welcome that gives an exceptional first impression of the Southern Lakes region as a whole,” says Olivia Pierre General Manager Commercial and Customer Experience.
“Tiaki provides an opportunity for us to encourage visitors to look after the place we call our home. The Festival is one of our biggest events of the year and we see this is an opportunity to encourage our visitors to make it even more memorable.”
The Festival Ambassadors will be on duty from June 20 to 22 and will be easy to identify with their blue high-vis uniforms. As well as welcoming visitors, they will also ensure the last touch point with Queenstown is a positive one, with a final haere ra at the departure gates.
QAC is a sponsor of the annual festival which last year attracted nearly 45,000 visitors from the region, New Zealand and internationally.
